Good served as an Arthur Andersen audit partner from 1992 to 2002 and then as an audit partner at Deloitte & Touche in 2002–03. She moved into the energy industry in 2003 when she joined Cinergy, which later became part of Duke Energy.
By July 2009, Good had become Duke Energy’s executive vice-president and chief financial officer. Four years later, Duke’s board selected her to become president and chief executive, effective 1 July 2013.
Her appointment placed an executive with decades of accounting and financial experience at the head of one of the largest electricity and energy companies in the United States.

Good’s long tenure at Duke Energy included both major strategic changes and serious operational challenges.
